An adventure into creating an event space to remember!
Ajoki aims to offer stretch tents for events, creating an atmosphere that people love and will remember.
Ajoki
Aim: To develop a concept design for Ajoki that will help them to implement a décor concept with their stretch tents for local festivals.
Ajoki has recently acquired two stretch tents, the aim is to use these for a range of events: Birthdays, Weddings, Festivals and at Lilu from spring until autumn each year. They have a small budget and would like to, where possible use items and equipment they already have. They want thier spaces to be an escape from the busy city and family friendly.
Results; Concept design for festivals complete and implemented at a local festival. Future concepts pending.
Background
At this stage I worked with Ellias from Ajoki to have an initial discussion, develop a client brief and project proposal.
It was at this stage that we clarified what Ajoki wanted and needed, the priorities and initial inspriation going forward.
We decided the best option would to be to focus on the the festival concept design first, as there was a local festival coming up soon.
The Brief
What do we know:
STYLE PREFERENCES:
“We want our tents to look needs to look cool in daylight, but also have options for cool lighting in the evening. We are normally based in the middle of nature, so want to reflect that in our décor.”
“Boho, macrame, inspired by the colour and patterns of the American sofas in Ajoki. Would like some sort of fairy lights and lanterns, warm colours and lighting. Nature is big influence.”
THE AIM IS TO ACHIEVE A CONCEPT THAT DELIVERS:
“Atmosphere! We love festivals with big artwork and stage design, love the bright and artistic colourful ceilings and creative big festival designs and concepts”
“We want customer to walk in and say “wooah… who did this? I like this!”. Following this up with, wanting to book the bar and tent for follow up events.”
THE CONCEPT NEEDS TO BE:
Easily implemented by our team, we will have 2 / 3 staff working at the bar, serving long drinks, coffees and soft drinks.
Needs to have minimal fabric and soft furnishings for this festival due to the amount of people who will be inebriated.
Need to have most of the décor up above people and inside of the tent, to reduce the chances of it being destroyed by weather or people.
Open to renting additional lighting and buying décor where needed, but on a “tight budget”.
WE WOULD LIKE TO SEE:
Fairy lights
Up-lighting
Circular bar around the pole / open to straight bar
Lighting under the bar edge or at the base of the bar to show customers the way
Development

DISCOVERY
We first had a discussion about the overall project, here we discovered what you really wanted from a festival concept design. We took a trip to see the stretch tents and walk through the event space.
We also discussed the shape of the bar and how the space needs to function.
STYLESCAPES
From there I was able to pull together your client brief, project proposal and move on to researching and developing your style-scapes.
The style-scapes helped to confirm that we are moving in the right direction and that we are on the same page.
IMPLEMENTATION
We explored what Ajoki has equipment and material wise and discussed the measurements of the equipment.
From this I was able to start work on developing the final concept design.

Festival Concept
THE CONCEPT
We aim to deliver a décor design that gives people that “WOW” feeling as they walk into your bar tent.
Inspired by colourful boho parties and festivals, we are bringing that big festival and party extravagance to a small stretch tent.
The projects budget, specifications and target audience for the upcoming event led to décor that could be made and installed easily enough by the team.
The delicate paper objects are located in areas that are higher up and away from the hands of the thousands of people at the festival over the weekend.
The concept aims to create a warm, colourful escape. As people walk into the tent, they should feel a change of atmosphere as they walk into something special, something different!

Implementation
From development of a clear concept, we were able to implement the set up of the tent in time for the local event and on a tight budget.
The concept was a success and made it onto multiple event highlight posts by local press and other channels.
As an additional deliverable I created a how-to guide and concept overview, to help the team at Ajoki implement the concept on their own in the future.
